Create a Website Using Yahoo! Site Builder

By Shane Woods On July 1, 2007 Under Ramblings

Yahoo! Site Builder is a website building tool that is free to use and catered towards small business owners. With features such as Drag and Drop design and maps, search boxes and more, it’s a great way to get started online, even if you have no prior site building knowledge.

Yahoo Site Builder

In order to use Yahoo! Site Builder, you will need to have or create a Yahoo ID and download the site builder first. Once you have the sitebuilder downloaded, follow these steps to create your first website using Yahoo! Site Builder.

1. Open the site builder.
2. Click Create a New Site
3. Click Start to Begin with the Site Wizard.
4. Enter a name for your site (i.e. mysite)
5. Choose where to save your site (on your pc).
6. Click Next.
7. Choose whether you want to use a premade template or start with a blank page.
8. In this example we’ll use a pre-designed template from the over 300 choices that are offered.
9. Choose the template you want from the drop down list or from the thumbnail previews.
10. Once you’ve found the template you would like for your site, click Next.
11. Next the wizard will ask you to choose the pages you would like to add to your site. You can change, remove or add pages later as well. So you may want to start with just your homepage to begin with to get the feel for the site builder.
12. Click the appropriate bubbles to show your pages on a navigational bar.
13. Click Next.
14. That’s it…the pages you’ve chosen to create have been created and saved to your computer.

In order to actually get your site online, you will need to publish the site to the Internet. You’ll also need to purchase hosting or a merchant account. You’ll receive a domain name, email addresses, hosting and more when you purchase through Yahoo!

It is very important to have a goal or target audience in mind.To create a website, there are a number of good free and paid builders available. Fortunately, some are quite easy to learn. In fact, after a few hours of playing around you could get a professionally looking website up and running !And if you want to add in a few more advanced tricks you can insert these without having to really understand the way they work - you’ll fathom out as and when you need to.I think the message really is just experiment and try different things out until you find something you can work with.
